The Prophet Jeremiah had a tough assignment. God called him to speak hard truths to the people of God, that were unpleasant and difficult. God’s people rebelled and would bring the consequences of judgment on themselves. There is a pattern in the messages Jeremiah delivered. God would pronounce the realities of judgment, yet in the midst of it He offered hope, if the people would turn to Him.
There is an interesting passage in Jeremiah 31:2-3 “Thus says the LORD: The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, the LORD appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”
Sometimes we find ourselves in the wilderness because of disobedience. Other times we find ourselves in the wilderness, because God is testing us and teaching us to trust Him more. For whatever reason we end up in the wilderness, we can always know there is grace to be found, if we will only seek the LORD.
Thank you God, for grace in the wilderness. In the driest and most difficult seasons of life, your children can know that you have not left them, nor will you forsake them.
